Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

This website is built with the intention of meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA conformance level. Accessibility is not an afterthought here — it is part of how this site was designed from the beginning. I want every visitor, regardless of how they access the web, to be able to explore Luxor and its history alongside me.

Measures taken

  • All images carry descriptive alt text written in plain language.
  • Colour contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG AA minimums (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).
  • Interactive elements — buttons, links, form inputs — are keyboard-navigable and display a visible focus ring.
  • Form fields are labelled correctly and error messages are programmatically associated with their inputs.
  • The page structure uses semantic HTML headings (h1, h2, h3) in logical order.
  • Touch targets on mobile are a minimum of 44 × 44 CSS pixels.
  • Arabic content is served with dir=“rtl” and the appropriate OpenType font features.
  • No content flashes more than three times per second (seizure safe).

Known limitations

Some photographic content — particularly older portfolio photographs taken in the field — may not yet have detailed alt descriptions. I am working through this backlog. If you encounter a photo without adequate description, please let me know and I will prioritise it.

Video content, where it appears, does not yet have captions or audio descriptions. This is planned for a future update.

Standards and guidelines

This site targets conformance with:

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA
  • WAI-ARIA 1.2 for interactive components
  • HTML 5 semantic structure
