Egypt Visa Assistance

Accurate, current guidance for your Egypt entry visa — from someone who has navigated this with dozens of travelers over seventeen years.

Most visitors to Egypt from Western countries qualify for a visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport. The process is not complicated in principle — you queue at the bank window before the immigration counter, purchase a stamp, affix it to the visa page of your passport, and hand it to the officer. In practice, the queue can be forty-five minutes long during busy periods, the bank window is before the passport control booths (and if you miss it, you have to go back), and the rules change periodically for specific nationalities.

The e-Visa system — applied for online at visa.online.eg before departure — is more reliable. A confirmed e-Visa means no queue at the bank window, no uncertainty about the stamp fee, and faster passage through passport control. Most eligible nationalities can apply. The approval typically arrives within 72 hours.

I walk clients through the e-Visa application: which form fields matter, what supporting documentation is typically requested, how to upload a passport scan that meets the system's requirements. I have helped travelers whose applications were initially rejected due to a photograph error or a field left blank resubmit and receive approval. The most common issue is passport validity — Egypt requires at least six months of remaining validity beyond your intended departure date.

Common questions

Do I need to apply for a visa before arriving in Egypt?
Most nationalities from Western countries, the United States, Canada, and Australia qualify for either an e-Visa applied online before departure (recommended) or a visa on arrival at Cairo airport. The e-Visa system is more reliable and faster at the border. I recommend applying for the e-Visa at least two weeks before travel.
How long does the e-Visa take to process?
Typically 72 hours from submission, though it can be faster. I recommend applying at least two weeks before departure to allow time for any follow-up if there is an issue with the application.
My passport expires in 7 months — is that enough?
No. Egypt requires at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date. If your departure is in three months and your passport expires in seven months, you have four months of validity beyond departure — not enough. Apply for a renewal before you book.
I have dual nationality — which passport should I use?
Use the passport that qualifies for the most straightforward entry. For most dual nationals combining a Western passport with a Middle Eastern passport, the Western passport is the correct choice for Egypt. If your situation is complex, tell me and I will give you current guidance.
What if I am entering Egypt by land from Jordan or Israel?
Land entry has different rules from air entry. The Sinai-only stamp available at the Taba crossing does not allow travel to Luxor or Cairo without an additional procedure. If your itinerary involves a land crossing, tell me in advance so we plan correctly.
What is the cost of this service?
I do not charge for visa guidance. This is part of the pre-trip support I provide to clients arranging a tour. What I offer is accurate current information and help navigating the application — not legal advice.
